A photobooth is a stand-alone photo shooting device without a photographer and instant print. It is thus most often composed of a camera and its lighting system, an interface for controlling the taking of photos, and instant printing equipment. Photobooth, or Photo Terminal?

The term “photobooth” is frequently used in France, but it is preferred the term “photo terminal” even if it is a little reductive because a “photo terminal” can only designate the photographic equipment, thus excluding the instant printing material. Marker names are also used to designate the photobooth, the best-known being “photobooth”, a term that speaks to as many people as possible. We also hear about photo booths or selfie terminal, using a term in fashion.

Why this pleases so much

Users of a photobooth can freely and autonomously make photos, alone or in groups, and print them. This animation is a great success because it satisfies many simple pleasures: that of meeting several people in a photo, of being beautiful on beautiful poses, of having fun making faces, or of disguising, alone or with several. Taking the picture autonomously without a photographer removes the inhibitions and the stress that some people may feel on the pictures. It’s also the way to create and keep lasting memories by printing photos and saving them digitally. In events such as weddings, we print duplicate clichés: a souvenir for the guests and a souvenir that we leave to the bride and groom.

There is a good photobooth and bad photobooth

The overall quality of the photobooth depends on the quality of the design of these elements and their integration. For example, there are photobooths without an instant printing system, which removes much of the playfulness and charm of animation. Another particularly important element is the ability to preview photos and see themselves in real time in the interface: as in a mirror. From a practical point of view this makes it possible to ensure the framing on which depends the future quality of the photo and which is not easy when one is several, and also allows the photographed persons to present themselves in their best light or worse when they make funny faces.

Personalisation: icing on the cake

The customisation of the photobooth is to make appear on the pictures a logo or personalised message. It is also possible to display custom elements on the screen. This extra touch makes the animation unique and is a finish that always makes its effect on users.
